Thunderbird:Filters
From SASDocs
Have Thunderbird open and on the main page.
1. Look at the tool bar near the top of the Thunderbird window and click on Tools.
2. From the Tools menu, click on Message Filters...
3. A new window will pop up. Click on the New... button.
4. A new window will pop up. In the field Filter name: type in a name that will distinguish this filter from other filters, ie. "from Bob" or "payroll".
5. Create rules for filter messages by clicking on the down arrows in the For incoming messages that: box. You can filter messages by Subject, Sender and more. After you are done setting the rules you need to set the action that will be done to the messages in the Perform these actions: box. The messages can be moved, copied, marked as read/unread, forwarded, deleted and more.
In this picture: messages from person@mtu.edu will be moved to the folder Important Email.
Here is another example. If the message is from sashours@mtu.edu and the subject contains week ending then it will be forwarded to the email address payroll@mtu.edu.
6. After you are done creating the filter click ok. If you wish to create another filter repeat steps 4 & 5 as many times as necessary. When all the filters you desire are created click the X on the Message Filters window, exit Thunderbird and open it back up. When new messages are received they will now be filtered according to the rules you have set up.
