Syncing Mail, Calendar, and Contacts on the iPhone/iPod Touch
- Log in to Rovernet, or have user associate with the Michigan Tech access points!
- Go to Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Add Account
- Tap Microsoft Exchange
- Type the user's MTU email address in (i.e. itsas@mtu.edu)
- Domain can be mtu.edu or blank.
- Type in their username and have them enter in their password.
- Tap Next.
- (You might have to wait a bit while it tries to verify).
- It will pause for a second, then pop up an additional box for 'Server Name' just type in huskymail.mtu.edu for the Server (remember to leave the Domain field blank), and hit Next.
- It will verify their account(Only Staff/Faculty can sync currently)
- It should now show you the three options to sync. It depends on the user, but most will want everything synced. Click Save after you configure it.
- If there are contacts on the phone, and the device is OS 3.0 or better it will ask if you want to merge the information. If the device's OS is less then 3.0 then it will wipe the contacts/calendar/email from the device. Be very carefull
- Check to make sure their Mail and Calendars are showing up (and in the correct time zone).
- If they're on an iPod, tell them that they are going to need to remember to login to Rovernet everyday, if they choose not to associate with the Michigan Tech access points (that they're on campus), or else their Mail, Calendar, and Contacts will not be updated. It's a good idea to do it on the iPhone too, since I'm not sure if it even tries to use Edge when it's connected to an access point. If they're at home or on the road, any Internet connection will do.
Troubleshooting
- If it never verifies successfully, double check that Rovernet actually authenticated all the way.
- If that doesn't work, have them retype in their password.
- This should be set by default, but make sure Exchange is using SSL. Tap Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> the user's account --> Account Info --> At the bottom make sure the SSL switch is on.
- Seriously, did you log in to Rovernet?
