Mac:Standardize the Dock

Please read to the end of this article before performing any of the steps.
[edit] Create a new local account
- System Preferences\Accounts
- Click the lock and authenticate
- Click the plus sign to add the user
- type in any name, don't use a password
[edit] Login as new user and setup dock
- Logout as admin and in as new user
- Open Applications and move in whatever needs to be in the dock.
[edit] What needs to be in the Dock (from left to right)
- Dashboard
- Firefox
- Thunderbird
- Adium
- Ical
- Itunes
- System Preferences
- VLC
- Micorosoft Apps:
- Word
- Powerpoint
- Excel
- Adobe:
- Illustrator
- Indesign
- Photoshop
- Maybe Dreamweaver.
[edit] On The folder Side of the dock (There is a separator)
- Applications folder
- Any network drives
Now that you have the perfect default user account setup.
Follow the next steps:
- After customizing this temporary account for the way we want our standard template to look, we then copy the contents of its home directory to where OS X stores its default User Template, which is in /System/Library/User Template/English.lproj
- This should be done as root with the following commands:
- sudo rm -rf /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/*
- sudo cp -R /Users/(name of temporary account)/* /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/
- For the Lode, a standard User Template has already been created, and the files are in \\cerebro\software\Lode Macs\user
- For a Lode Mac, copy the entire "user" folder from the location above to the local hard drive, then modify the second command above to copy from the location you placed the "user" folder to OS X's default location.
Don't forget to remove the temp user account.
System Pref accounts Select the account hit the minus sign "-"
