Mac:InDesign Cache
From SASDocs
To prevent Adobe InDesign 5.0 (CS3) from dragging down the system by caching files over the network, the following should be done before opening any files:
- Launch InDesign
- From the InDesign menu in the upper left (next to the Apple logo), choose "Preferences", then choose "File Handling..." (second from the bottom).
- In the area near the top titled "Document Recovery Data", click "Choose..." The "Choose a Folder" window will open.
- In the "Choose a Folder" window, click on the Mac's hard drive, under "Devices". This is probably the first item, and should have the same name as the machine you're working on, though it may just be called "Macintosh HD".
- In the panel to the right of the "Devices" menu there should now be a list of folders on your Mac's hard drive. One of them should be called "public". SAS creates this folder by default--if it is not on your computer, call SAS. Click on this folder. The line that the "public" folder is on should turn blue.
- Click the "New Folder" button in the lower left of the "Choose a Folder" window. Name your new folder "InDesign Cache" (without the quotation marks). Click Create.
- The public folder should now be selected in blue, and the InDesign Cache folder should be selected in gray. Click Choose to close the window.
- You will be warned that "Change will not take effect until you restart InDesign." Click "OK".
- Click "OK" to close the Preferences window.
- Close InDesign. The process is complete, and you can now reopen the program and use it normally.
- If you have any trouble with these instructions, please call IT-SAS at 7-3636.
